چکیده

The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) for a vehicle’s attitude using signals received from GPS satellites is derived in this paper. A statistical model of the measured phase double-differences is developed to form the likelihood function. The attitude is represented by a rotation matrix, a member of the group of 3×3 special orthogonal matrices. A steepest descent-like maximization algorithm is derived, that guarantees that the estimates belong to this manifold. Experimental results illustrate the performance and the importance of considering the right correlation between measurements. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Windowing Effects of Short Time Fourier Transform on Wideband Array Signal Processing Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation

During the last two decades, Maximum Likelihood estimation (ML) has been used to determine Direction Of Arrival (DOA) and signals propagated by the sources, using narrowband array signals. The algorithm fails in the case of wideband signals. As an attempt by the present study to overcome the problem, the array outputs are transformed into narrowband frequency bins, using short time Fourier tran...

Direct Position Estimation Utilizing Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS) GPS Signals

We propose Direct Position Estimation (DPE) utilizing non-line-of-sight (NLOS) GPS signals for urban navigation. In urban environments, buildings reflect GPS signals, leading to reception of NLOS GPS signals. In addition, buildings obstruct GPS signals, resulting in reduced GPS signal availability. We treat NLOS GPS signals as additional line-of-sight (LOS) GPS signals to virtual satellites at ...

Bearing Fault Detection Based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Optimized ANN Using the Bees Algorithm

Rotating machinery is the most common machinery in industry. The root of the faults in rotating machinery is often faulty rolling element bearings. This paper presents a technique using optimized artificial neural network by the Bees Algorithm for automated diagnosis of localized faults in rolling element bearings. The inputs of this technique are a number of features (maximum likelihood estima...

Predictive Attitude Estimation Using Global Positioning System Signals

In this paper, a new algorithm is developed for attitude estimation using Global Positioning System (GPS) signals. The new algorithm is based on a predictive filtering scheme designed for spacecraft without rate measuring devices. The major advantage of this new algorithm over traditional Kalman filter approaches is that the model error is not assumed to represented by an unbiased Gaussian nois...
